The Imprint Left Behind
As previously stated, Abbot Pennings was extremely influencial and important to the St. Norbert College communtiy and for that fact both a building, Abbot Pennings Fine Arts, and a statue were deticated in his honor and memory. Originally, the Fine Arts building was not dedicated to Abbot Penning but some time after his death it was decieded to dedicate the building to him. (van Stratum)
Not only were things dedicated to Abbot Pennings but Abbot Pennings dedicated things to the campus. As photos show, he spoke at the dedication of Boyle Hall, and was present as the ground breaking of both the Fine Arts building and Sensenbrenner dormitory. Yet we cannot quantify Abbot Pennings' imprint by the amount of buildings and statues left in his name but we must take into consideration the mental impact he left. As best put by Jean van Stratum, "My idea of him is of a complex human being who like a real entrepreneur work with people's physical and spiritual resources and used money as an important tool in what he wanted to achieve. and, yes he took risks in his actions. He had many successes and also made mistakes. But, what he created - with the help of many others - stands as a lasting legacy." (van Stratum, 427)
